5 things to consider when looking for the perfect pair of Jeans

Hands up if you find it a bit of a chore buying new jeans.

I went for years wondering why my jeans never looked quite right. I was guilty of buying my jeans a size to large and wondering why they would suddenly go all baggy. I’d be constantly having to pull them up and never felt quite put together.

I can’t quite remember who set me right. I may have been watching a style segment on This Morning, it might have been Lorraine? The point is I had a light bulb moment and I haven’t got it wrong since.

I work in fashion retail and so many times I see ladies making the same mistakes that I used to. That is why I’ve decided to share some tips so that you don’t make those same mistakes.

This first point is crucial and really is a game changer.

A good fitting jean shouldn’t be easy to put on.

They may even take a bit of wiggling to get into. That perfect fitting jean should feel snug yet comfortable. I’m not talking so tight you can’t eat or move in them but remember that denim stretches with wear. Your jeans will loosen and not feel so tight after a couple of wears. If your jeans don’t feel snug when you buy them they are too big.

Think about fabric. How is the denim itself  constructed? You will get a better fit with jeans that have multi directional stretch. A weightier denim is also more flattering as it will minimise the appearance of any lumps, bumps and VPL’s.

NEXT figure jeans are a firm favourite with me as  the denim is very stretchy yet feels thick and holds its shape well. They are a great price at £35 as well. Ever the budget fashion fan I do tend to regularly trawl the clearance section of their website in the hope of finding them on sale.

      Next figure skinny jeans £35

Know your waist measurement. A lot of jean brands are sized this way rather than by dress size. This will save you a lot of time and confusion when looking for your size.

        Consider footwear
are you intending to wear heels or flats? Take your shoes along along with you to try on. How many times have you got home with what you thought was the right length only to find you were wrong? It’s annoying isn’t it. That boot leg that is actually too short does not want to work well with your heels!

          Experiment with the cut

Let’s face it not all of us are shaped the same. I have chubby knees that twist skinny jeans the wrong way. Yes it’s a thing!

If like me your not comfortable in skinny jeans but really want a sleek silhouette consider a straight leg jean.

If you tend to be a bit hip and thigh heavy try a girlfriend fit jean as it can be much more flattering. The fit is not as casual and loose as the boyfriend fit and still looks smart. It just gives extra room for those curvier hips and thighs.

Boden Cavendish Girlfriend fit Jean from £26

This Jean is perfect to me as it is also high waisted so great if you are worried about your tummy. A high rise waist will give you some extra control. Fellow Mummy’s will know exactly what I’m talking about.
That higher waistband will also guarantee avoiding any unplanned flashing of your underwear!

Lastly don’t be afraid to roll up your jeans. Ankle grazers are super flattering and instantly make a simple jeans  and t-shirt combo look that bit more stylish.

Fashion Mini Haul – Trying out a new Budget Clothing Website

Regular readers of Schoolrunbeauty.com will know how much I love a bargain. That’s why after seeing an advert pop up in my Facebook feed I was suckered into clicking through to discover what offerings the website Lessthan10pounds.com had.

The premise is ex branded fashion mostly on sale for less than £10. Some items are actually priced higher than this, and sold under their label rather than as ex-label.

As per usual with this is type of website not all the items will be to everyone’s taste. In my opinion though it has some absolute Gems so it definitely worth a look.

I ordered three items that came to £23.24 including postage. They arrived within 2 days of ordering, well packaged and via Royal Mail.

I’m so pleased with everything I ordered that I had to share them with you straight away. So excuse the messy hair and lack of Makeup…

Ex New Look Wide Leg Burgandy Jump Suit – £7.75

I love a Playsuit. I always feel a bit more sophisticated when I wear one. This one was originally from High Street retailer New Look. The quality is good though as the fabric is so fine you will need to be careful with underwear choice. A VPL is definitely not sophisticated!

It comes up long, which for me is great, it may though be a problem for shorter people.

High Neck Textured Jumper – £5.95

This is so warm and cosy. Most importantly it isn’t scratchy. I ordered this a couple of sizes bigger than my dress size as I wanted an oversized fit.

            Blush Sequin Dress – £7.95

The quality of this dress is amazing! I love it and need and excuse to wear it out.

The top is made from a thick stretchy scuba material so is very flattering. I feel I could get away with eating a hearty meal wearing it. It feels quite heavy due to the sequinned skirt and hangs beautifully.

As the label has been cut I can’t see which shop this originally came from. Size wise though I would say it is true to size. I’m typically a U.K. Size 6, which is the size ordered. It does come up very short on my 5ft 7 frame, but I have very long waist to leg ratio so everything comes up short on me.

At the moment there is a coupon code that gives you an extra 15% of ex branded items.  This is 15EXBRAND

Have you bought anything from lessthan10pounds.com before? If you have let me know what your experience was like.

A budget alternative to Megan McKenna’s NTA dress.

Yesterday was the date for the 2018 NTA’s. To be honest I’m never really that interested in the awards themselves. I am very interested in what everyone is wearing on the red carpet though! Who was the best dressed! Who got it wrong!

For me Megan McKenna completely stole the show in a rose printed dip hemmed dress.

In all my dreams I could never afford this dress. It is from American designer Sherri Hill for a rather eye watering £720. If you can afford it though here is where you can get in in the UK. dress2party.net

I have found a much more affordable retailer that offers dresses of a very similar feel.

Chi Chi London offers a huge selection of dipped hem dresses. The closest to Megan’s dress I found was the Kalini dress. Amazingly this is actually on sale at the moment for just £34

Image Credit – Chi Chi London

I soooo want this dress. I’m just trying to justify whether or not I would actually have anywhere to wear it though?

My life is not that glamorous! Still if you have a wedding or a prom this year Chi Chi London is a website worth checking out.

Deal alert! -Extra 20% off Topshop sale | My top picks

Just thought I would give fellow topshop lovers the heads up. They have an awesome extra 20% of sale items. I have just been a bit naughty and order myself this velvet cold shoulder dress for a mere £4. That is including delivery!

As I’m slightly over excited by this I thought I would share with you my top picks from the Topshop sale.
            Disney Princess PJ set £9.60

This High neck twist crop top £4 would have been mine. Alas it’s not available in my size. Boo!

Pregnant ladies how flipping gorgeous is this dress? I never wanted to spend a lot of money on clothes when I was pregnant so at £8 this is a bit of a steal.

I’m in love with these velvet sandals. They are just £8 and are still available in most sizes.
I couldn’t possibly walk in these (dumb back problems) so I’m just going to admire from afar. Sigh for the days that I used to be able to totter about in shoes like these. Queue sad face!

I have an almost identical pair of these faux leather trousers that I bought from Topshop about four years ago. At just £9.60 these are not to be missed. I paid a lot more than that for mine.

This pale pink real leather clutch bag is now only £12. It is so classic in style so is a definite investment piece.

Honestly there is loads of great stuff to be found at really great prices it really is worth a look. Do bear in mind the very low priced items may only be available in one size. You might be lucky though a grab a bargain like I did.

            The Cheeky Shopping Bag!

As promised yesterday here are some more details about my new cheeky shopping bag.

This practical but fun bag is available from Emma’s Personalised Bags priced at £15  here

She hand paints all the bags herself so is able to create designs suitable for all ages and occasions. This particular design is just a perfect match for my slightly naughty sense of humour.

This is the medium sized bag. As it is made from jute it is super sturdy as well as large enough for trips to the library and into town.

If you want to see Emma’s other work then check out her Facebook page. You can also order book bags, pencil cases, plus bags in other sizes.

Huge thanks to the Husband for buying it for me!

Life Lately – new job, blog events and hospital trips!

I feel like I’ve been suffering from a bit of the dreaded bloggers block recently. Yup, I’ve  been lacking in inspiration. What better time then share with you a little bit of what I have been up to recently. Well, it’s something to right about?

So, I have started a new job. Just a little one day a week role working in a tea room at a near by antiques centre. This suits me down to a T (pardon the pun) as its not a difficult job and brings in just enough money each week to cover all those extra costs the kids seem to be coming home from school with lately.

The only issue I can see is that I’ll end spending all my wages in the antiques centre. It is huge, just like Aladins cave, with so many interesting things to see. Well it would make a change from spending it all on make-up!

Last Friday I went to a bloggers event at my local lush store. We had loads of fun playing with the new valentines products, and even got to make our own bubble bar to take home. Of course that involved a teeny bit of shopping, so if you want to see what I picked up on the evening then check out this post here

I didn’t actuallythink I was going to make the Lush event as we had spent most of Friday at the Hospital with my Diabetic son. He had a gastric infection that was causing complications with his condition. Fortunately they got it under control with some tweeks to his Insulin and he was able to come home.

Both myself and husband were supposed to be going out separately on Friday, but he volunteered to stay home and keep an eye on Harrison. He’s a star that one!

Today whislt the kids were at school the husband and I went out for a spot of brunch. He being a typical bloke had a full English and I had a really tasty Welsh rarebit. Yes it may look like just ordinary cheese on toast but this had loads of whole grain mustard sauce cooked in with the cheese. It’s yum!!

Oh and just look at the work of art that was my hot chocolate, a picture of this went straight on Instagram.

Lastly I thought I’d share with you my favourite recent purchase. It was a total impulse purchase, fortunately a good one.

I was going food shopping with my mum and we ended up popping into Next. This monochrome sweater jumped out at  both me and my mum. At £18 I think it was a bit of a steal. Still I had to fess up and explain how I went food shopping and came home with clothes to the hubby!

What have you been up to recently? Thanks for stopping by!

These boots were made for walking – Animals Nevada Bootie

Way back in July on our last visit to Newquay, Cornwall, we did a bit of shopping. My Husband treated me to these suede booties from Animal.

As they are are faux fur lined, these where stashed away waiting patientially to be worn once Autumn arrived. Now Autumn has well and truely arrived, out came the Booties, and they have rarely been off my feet since.

They are so warm and cosy, have the same feel as the more expensive UGG boots, but without the need for the “UGG shuffle”. You know the one, your boots begin to loose form and are a bugger to stay upright in. Well my classic UGG cardies did that anyway!

Animals offering have a much firmer and more supportive sole, they are made for walking in. The quality of the suede Is also on point,  it brushes clean easily. I know because I’m a messy pup and have spilt tea in them whoops!

So yes I’m in love with them, they look cute, are comfy and practical. That’s all my casual boot requirements covered.

I couldn’t  find this colour Boot on the Animal website, they do have them available in black or burgandy though priced at £45. Not to be defeated I did a google search and they are still available in a couple of sizes from Amazon  priced  at just£31.50. Bargain!! Especially as Hubby had paid full price for these.

Do you like a comfy boot or are you more of a killer heal kind of girl?

OOTD – An autumn wedding in transitional pastels!

So one would be forgiven for thinking that wedding season is over. Nope not true!

I am attending a wedding in Las Vegas next month and this is the outfit I intend to wear. Call it my last ditch attemp to wear pastels before winter hits.
The dress is by Therapy at House of Fraser. I do believe I have fallen a little bit in love with it. The fabric is such good quality and has just the right amount of volume in the skirt.   The fabric is a little bit thicker and with covered shoulders so perfect for when the temperature starts to drop a bit in Vegas.   I have choosen to offset the cool mint of the dress with silver accessories. I kind of feel I’m channeling my inner ice queen. So there is a little nod to the upcoming season.
This bag is from Quiz and a was a great little find at £14.99 I love the different levels of texture provided by the zig zag dress and the chevron bag.

Footwear I have kept simple with some silver pumps. I’ve gone past worrying about heels, I want comfort, particularly as weddings mean a long day on your feet. These are actually a couple of years old from Topshop so I can’t provide a link, sorry 🙁

            OOTD – 70’s vibe print

So, I wanted to share with you today’s outfit. It is one of my favourite looks right now. The print on the shirt has such a 70’s vibe to it.

The TopShop shirt I picked up from my local British Heart Foundation Charity Shop. I think I paid about £4 for it, great considering it’s near perfect condition. The fit and the print I am loving.

The shorts and cardigan are an old, I’m talking several seasons. Do you think I might be a horder? They are classic basics though so easy to find similar.

The sandals are my go to right now, they are a recent purchase from JustFab. It did a full blog post dedicated to these, check it out Here if you like.

Thanks for stoping by, don’t forget you can also follow me on Instagram and Bloglovin.

Obsessed with slides – A summer footwear essential

Is anyone else out there getting a bit excited about the fact that summer is on it’s way? Silly question?

I am, and starting to think about making a few purchases to update my summer wardrobe. Top of my list has to be a pair of slides. I can’t do heels, but some of these come with a bit of a flat wedge, meaning added height and comfort.

My search has become a bit of an obsession, I tend to get an idea in my head of exactly what I want then spend ages hunting down the perfect item.

Anyway I thought it would be fun to share with you some of my favourites, that I have come across so far.

These ones from Deichmann are so simple and chic. They also come in black and a pale pink. At £17.99 they are a bit of a steal aswell.

I love the tropical print on this pair from New look, £15.99

Now this next pair by Sophia Webster at  Net A Porter I absolutely adore, at £195 they are way beyond my budget. One can dream I suppose. Here’s to hoping someone on the high street comes up with a dupe.

This next pair are techniquelly not a slide but the flatform sole has the same feel. I love the pink jelly style. They also come in a cute purple colour. These are on offer at £10 from Wynsors world of shoes.

There are plenty of slides to choose from out that so I don’t think it will be too hard for me to find my perfect pair. I shall keep you posted.

Are you planning on any pre summer purchases? It’s very tempting now the sun is out, and the shops are brimming with new collections.

            Bye for now, Katy 🙂
