Spending ban Update – 4 weeks and counting

Four weeks ago I announced that I would be putting myself on a spending ban. I have some big events coming up  over the next few months and needed to save my pennies for those. I have to say I’m quite pleased with how I have stuck to it this time.

I usually suck at spending bans and tend to go a bit crazy after a week. I’m like a kid, tell me no and I want to do something all the more.

I do have to confess to one slip up, I forgot to cancel my YouBeauty discovery box subscription. Though at £6.95 it’s not a large amount of money so I’m going to let myself off that one.

Karma though has been on my side, I was very lucky to win a Lush giveaway hosted by Becky at Becky Bedbug. Receiving these goodies has settled my urge for new things.

I also came back from holiday to find several beauty samples in the post from freebie websites. If you want to find the websites I use then check out this post here.

My non-spending has meant I have been able to book flights to Edinburgh for my Husbands birthday (we are going to see the Foofighters and Royal Blood), without doing my usual and using a credit card. See, I’m growing as a person ha ha.

As we are off to Las Vegas for a friends wedding in October I will be continuing my spending ban for another 2 months at least. My only concession to this is that I am not going to cancel my YouBeauty subscription, at £6.95 it helps settle that urge to splurge.

All in all I’m happy with how things are going. A lack of shopping posts has meant being more inventive with my content, which can only be a good thing for my blog. It also means I am having a bit of a de-clutter and finishing up old products, which is an added bonus.

If you are on a spending ban let me know as we can keep each other on track. I know I could do with it.

Don’t forget to subscribe via email or bloglovin if you want to keep updated with my progress.

Why I Won’t be Purchasing The Kate Moss for Rimmel Nude Collection

When I first saw a glimpse of the latest Kate Moss for Rimmel collection I did my usual ‘Oh my God – I have to have it!’. The new range of nude lipsticks and nail polishes were calling ‘buy me buy me, I’m so pretty’. Alas as I’m on a spending ban any purchases had to be put on a back burner.

I couldn’t get this collection out of my head though. I wanted it now!

What’s a girl on a spending ban going to do then? Well first stop was to have a rumage through my stash to see if I had anything similar to settle that instant urge to spend.  I am so glad I did. As it turns out I don’t need anything from this collection, I already have my very own collection of nudes sitting forgotten about in my Makeup stash.

Yup I have found five lipsticks and five nail polishes that though I wouldn’t call dupes they certainly capture the feel of the Kate Moss Nude collection.

Here they are saved from sitting unloved in my lipstick Jar.

 Left to right in order of swatch they are;

Model Co Party Proof Matte Lipstick in Get Naked. I can only find this to purchase as part of trio set from Birchbox retailing at £15.50.

The Body Shop Lipstick in shade 42. This has now been discontinued so unfortunately I can’t provide a link.

Lord & Berry Intensity Satin Lipstick in Glazed Pink £12 from fashionscent.co.uk.

N07 High Shone Lip Crayon in Daydreamer £9 from Boots.com

E.L.F. Jumbo Lip Gloss Stick in Sangria Starters £1.92 from Iherb.

As you can see I have nudes covered from the cool toned to the warm. I definately suit the warmer toned shades better.
Moving on to nails, yup I have that covered too.  My collection covers the whole spectrum of nudes. Sadly many of these are discontinued products now so I can’t show you were to get them from. You will have to just pick up the Rimmel range, No?.

Me I shall be a good girl on this occasion and keep my purse firmly shut.

This shop my stash has actually been a brilliant process for me as normally I would have caved and made a purchase. I can honestly say I don’t feel the need to. The next time I’m feeling the pull of a new collection I will be checking out my stash first. My pocket will thank me for it and best of all I have’nt broken my spending ban.

Have you tried shopping your stash before? What do you think of the new Rimmel Kate Moss collection?

Resisting the Urge to Splurge…no buy July

This is just a quick post today, talking about my self imposed spending ban, for the duration of July.

There are a couple of reasons for this

1. I am over run with beauty related products I really do not need anymore, even my back ups have back ups. (Oh the shame).

2. I need to prove to myself than I’m not an obsessive compulsive spender, I do actually have a tiny bit of self control, honest!

3. I need to save some money for my big sisters hen weekend, so far the savings pot is still empty..oops!

Today is the 6th and so far so good I haven’t wobbled. I even managed to resist some L’oreal and Revlon make-up bargains in my local pound shop. Usually I’d be all over that. You can’t see this bit I’m patting myself on the back right now. Go me!!

My only concession is I will still be receiving july’s Birchbox as I have a prepaid subscription on the go. Hopefully this will satisfy the usual mid month urge to splurge. You never know.

What about you? Has anyone else put themselves on a spending ban? How are you managing? I know I’m going to need constant reminder I mustn’t be shopping this month.
