It’s Nap time! – Using a Space Mask

Having just worked seven days straight, I’m not gonna lie, I’ve been feeling a wee bit on the worn out side. When it comes to my day off then I’m more than likely going to have a nap a some point. Yup, I’m not afraid to admit that at 36, I still need a nap!

It was perfect timing then that my reading in heels box arrived containing a Space Mask. A what now?….Yes you read right…I said ‘space mask’.

A space mask is a self heating eye mask that soothes and relaxes you, allowing you to drift off to sleep. The mask is made from soft feeling material with iron powder encased within. The Iron powder heats up on contact with oxygen. I found the heat lasted for about 20 minutes. It also is meant to have a light Jasmin scent however I couldn’t actually smell this.

There are loops on either side of the mask that you pop over your ears keeping it in place. This is a great touch as it allows you to find your natural sleep position without it falling off.

I really enjoyed the warm feeling, I felt that this would be great to use if you have a headache.

The foil pouches are super handy so you could keep one in your handbag. Ideal then if you are traveling or are someone that suffers from regular headaches. I also think it would be worth giving one of these a go if you are someone that struggles to drop off to sleep.

Me… I’m not above finding a quiet corner at work and having a power nap during my lunch break. What about you?

A pack of 5 masks costs £15 + p&p from spacemasks.com

Reading In Heels | A book based subscription box

I am bit of a sucker for a good old subscription box. That’s why when I found out about Reading In Heels I immediately signed myself up. If you love reading and are open to reading something that you haven’t picked yourself, then this box is for you.

Each month you receive a book plus some extra luxury treats. This month the treats seemed to be themed around products designed to help you relax and get a good nights sleep. I’ve had a lot on my plate at work at the moment so this is something I really appreciated.

Included was a relaxing tealight sample from hopping hare candles. This has a gorgeous lavender scent with top notes of ylangylang. Full size candles range from £10-£38 and you can also pick up the tealight samples for just £1 from their website.

Next we have sleepy head beauty balm from Made by Coopers Apothecary . This 10g mini tin retails for £5 and you can get a larger 60g tin for £15. It has a Lavender and Frankincense scent. The top notes are much warmer than the candle.

Included also are two t2tea sleep tight Teabags, £7.50 for 25 and 2 pieces of Chins Kitchen Rose and Cardamom Nankhatai, £6.50 box. These are little fragrant Indian shortbreads. They were nice but not something I would rush out to buy myself.

This months book is Bad Romance by Emily Hill. The book is a selection of short stories that are darkly funny. I often have found myself literally sniggering as I read this book. Each story takes a fairly ordinary situation and then adds an unexpected twist. Often the heroines behave in way that society norms could consider to be fairly outrageous, they do so with a charming defiance.

I’ve found this perfect for keeping in my bag when I have a spare 5-10 minutes and feel the urge to indulge in a spot of reading. Life is often far to busy and fast paced and I sometimes just am looking for a spot of instant gratification. I don’t have to worry about getting to ‘the good bits’ and then having to stop reading.

A subscription costs £12.40 including P&P. This also includes access to the Reading In Heels digital book club, a place where you can leave reviews and discuss the book with other members.

As you can see it is well packaged so you items arrive safely.

Overall I have thoroughly enjoyed my first experience of Reading in Heels. I am looking forward to seeing what next month brings.

My first Pink parcel Experience

Who else hates their period? I do, with a great big fat capital H! Saying that I do greet it each month with a ‘Halle-friggin-lujah’…I’ve dodged the pregnancy bullet. Those inevitable cramps and that not feeling truly clean experience are not welcome though! That’s why I decided I was going to give Pink Parcel a try.

Pink Parcel is a monthly subscription service that promises to make those monthly visits ‘fuss free and fabulous’ The service combines treats, beauty products and those essential femcare products all delivered to you at home. This arrives in a discreet and well packaged parcel on a date of your choosing.

My first concern was whether it would arrive in time. Fortunately it actually arrived roughly a week before my selected date. No problems there then.

Secondly, would I be sent the type of femcare product that I prefer to use? Thankfully you get to choose from a wide variety of brands and can pick, tampons, towels or even a combination of both. I was pleasantly surprised to see that this part of the box isn’t just an afterthought. You receive a good amount with a combination of items for both daytime and nighttime use. There is also even a little well filled ‘for now’ bag to keep in your handbag so you don’t ever get caught out.

Also included in the box is a treat food item along with a healthy tea bag. I don’t know about you but I always crave chocolate around my time of the month. I also love a cup of tea!

January’s box theme is Positivity, so the beauty related products included reflect this.

My favourite item included is the Made by Coopers Apothecary Happy Mist value £12.

This can be used to spray in the air or onto fabrics. The lime, clementine and basil scent is very uplifting and definitely triggers the pleasure sensors.

I was also pleased to see Browcote Waterproof Brow Gel. Value £6.99

Brow products are one of my favourite make-up items so I will definitely be trying this out. I’m that person that can happily leave the house with a bare face but I always have to have groomed brows.

Laritzy is a makeup brand that I haven’t heard of before now. This eye pencil is what I consider to be a ‘safe’ introduction to the brand. This is the most expensive item in the box with an rrp of £18.00.

I have the shade shimmer which is a silver shade. I shall be trying this out in my waterline as an eye brightening product. The packaging states that it is free from Parabens and after checking their website I found out that they also do not test on animals. Both positives for me!

The last item is a set of Bandzee Hair Ties value £5.95.

I love this type of hair tie as they are strong yet don’t leave kinks in you hair. I do feel they are often very overpriced though, especially as I’m always loosing them. This was definitely a useful addition to this box.
Over all I am really pleased with my first experience of Pink Parcel. The value of the contents far exceed the £12.95 price tag. I’m not going to lie sanitary towels are one of those essential items that I resent have to spend money on. This subscription service takes the pain out of it! I’m looking forward to seeing what February’s box brings.

Gousto – The subscription service for busy foodies!

Well Hello! It’s been a while… Life got busy again! There never seems to enough hours in the day to do everything I’ve planned. Let’s be real here…I’m not the sort of girl to give up her sleep in favour of ticking something else off that never ending ‘to-do-list’. I am interested in anything that is going to save me time though. That’s why I decided to try out some recipe box services. The first Box I tried is Gousto box, and…… I am ridiculously impressed. Where has this been all my life?

If you haven’t heard of Gousto box this is how it works. First up you sign up to a subscription service deciding whether you want a box for two or four people. Then you choose how many meals you want (up to four) when, and how often you want your meals delivered. Lastly you pick from a great selection of recipes and they send you everything you need straight to your front door. Simple!

My biggest concern about using this type of service was freshness. What happens if I’m not home? How does the raw meet keep from going bad throughout the delivery process?

I was pleased to see that anything that needs to keep cool was packed into a wool cool biodegradable cool bag complete with Ice blocks. Everything was still cold so my concerns about the food spoiling was unnecessary.

The Ingredients themselves are all very fresh and of high quality. Where possible the items are delivered naked so packaging is kept to a minimum. How good does all that fresh food look?

So far everything we have tried has been very tasty. Even my fussy youngest liked everything. The recipe cards are easy to follow and I love that everything is pre measured out for you.

We are a family of five so ordered the four person box. The portion sizes are generous though so we have been able to stretch the meals to feed us all. Gousto do say on their website that they are adult portions and that a child wouldn’t necessarily require a full portion.

Gousto box hasn’t removed the ‘having to cook’ element from my day, but it has completely simplified the process. No longer to I have to spend ages searching for interesting meals, making shopping lists and trying to source different ingredients.

I have a diabetic son who has to carb count. This can often be tricky when cooking from scratch. All the nutritional information is listed on the recipe cards so this was actually really easy to work out. Another big time saver!

The price of a Gousto box is structured depending on how many people you are ordering for And how many meals you choose. For us it works out as £47.75 which breaks down to £2.98 a portion.

When you factor in the price of quality meat, 1 off ingredients, fuel costs, time saved and the removal of the ‘I can’t be bothered’ impulse take-away I feel that’s not a bad deal.

If you wanted to try out Gousto for yourself this Link will get you your first two boxes half price. In the. Interest of disclosure I would also receive £15 credit to use on the website.

For now I’ll leave you with some pictures of some of the tasty meals we have been enjoying.

Why I still Love A Beauty Box

Scrolling through Twitter recently I couldn’t help but notice an increase in negative feelings towards beauty Subscription Boxes.

A couple of years ago it seemed the likes of Glossybox and Birchbox could do no wrong. Based on their success everyone wanted a piece of the action and there are now a huge variety of boxes to choose from. If you want high end there’s Cohorted. Is French Beauty your thing? We have My Little Box. Want something to make your monthlies a bit more appealing? Pink Parcel has you covered. Has the novelty worn off though?  Am I in the minority? I still love a beauty box you see.

To settle my curiosity I ran a little Twitter poll.

Of the 39 people that responded 56% said that they no longer enjoyed a Beauty Subscription Box. Perhaps they are falling out of favour then!

If you are one of those people I would love to know why this is. For now though I’m going to share my reasons for still loving a Beauty Box.

  • I love trying out different beauty products but don’t necessarily want to purchase a full size. What if I don’t like a product? What if it isn’t right for me? I’ve either wasted my money (If I really cant use it) or I’m stuck using a product I don’t like.
  • It means I can afford to try out those expensive Beauty products I wouldn’t usually be able to afford. You can usually make huge savings if you are savvy. This is why I love Latest In Beauty. There is the option to curate your own box from a Huge menu of products. I usually do a little bit of googling to find out the RRP of products so I get the best value for money.

    • I’m still discovering new brands all the time. QVC’s Tili Box is particularly good for this. I am eagerly anticipating their latest Box that is launching on September 1st.
    • I am pushed out of my comfort zone. Often those surprise boxes contain types of products or shades that I wouldn’t ever consider choosing myself. I’ve discovered some of my favourite products in this way.
    • It’s something to look forward too. I still get excited about the anticipation of receiving my monthly box of goodies. It almost feels like receiving a present.

I have to admit I do tend to get bored after a while if I am subscribed to an individual subscription for too long. Each company definitely tends to favour a few brands over others.

There are loads of different services I haven’t tried yet so I will just switch to someone else. I have my eye on The Vegan Kind as I would like to be using more cruelty free and natural products.

If you love a beauty box service do share your favourite in the comments below.

    The August Libbie Club Deals

Once again Libbie club have sent me a box of beauty products to sample and review. Each month the Libbie club has a selection of deals including some great money saving offers from an exciting range of Brands

    The offers this month include;

    Indeed Labs Nanoblur 30ml 15% off RRP – £16.99

This product claims to instantly correct and perfect the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

I have only tried this out once so far, so it’s to early to say whether this is a wonder product.

I patted it into the resting line I have  on my forehead after I had applied my liquid makeup and before applying any powder products as per the instructions. It did reduce the depth of the line but it didn’t completely disappear. Promising then!

The jury is still out on how effective this as a long term solution but I promise I will get back to you once I have used it some more.

Nizz Cosmetics Lustre Lipstick – £16

This is a lovely creamy feeling lipstick that is vegetarian, hypoallergenic and free from parabens. I have the shade cashmere nude which I have swatched for you below.

Can we also take a moment to appreciate the gorgeous packaging. Visually It reminds me of a Dior lipstick plus it feels very luxurious and weighty to hold. This is a new UK brand from ex nurse turned beauty buff Charlene, I’m impressed so far.

Mizon Placenta Ampoules Cream 50ml 20% off RRP – £20.40

Libbie club claim that the placenta extract in this cream is plant derived. I’m not totally convinced by this if I’m honest with you.

Why? Well I can’t find anywhere on the packaging claiming this.

I spent a good couple of hours scouring the Internet trying to reasearch more about this product, but can’t actually find anywhere that says where the placenta extract is sourced from.

Typically skincare brands originally used pig or sheep placenta though some Korean brands are now actually use plant placenta. This is a Korean brand so I could be plant derived, I can’t find the evidence to 100% back up that claim though.

Having put snail slime on my face before I’m not that squeamish about ingredients so I have still tried this cream out. Placenta is also a bi product of natural birth so I would expect the animal not to be harmed in its extraction.

The cream is very rich and has a plesent scent to it and do feel my skin feels much more hydrated since using this. However  I have had a few more spots appear than usual since using this so if you have oily/combination skin like myself you may find this does the same for you.

There are loads of other offers available right now from Libbie club including a fab weekend special for fans of French skincare brand  Caudalie.

This is 30% of cult skincare favourite Caudalie Instant Detox Mask, making it it the lowest price currently available at just £15.20 plus p&p. You have to act first to benefit from that offer as it ends at midnight Sunday 21st August.

Me I’ve already made a cheeky purchase of that for myself as I didn’t want to miss out.

The March Libbie Club Deals & Reviews

What can I say about the new products on offer from The Libbie Club? Well….they are all brilliant, and I’m hard to please.

The Nude Double Dose of Genius kit available for £20 (worth £41) contains  ProGenius Rescue Oil 10ml and ProGenius Omega Milk 10ml.

Having tried the facial oil before, after receiving a little sample in a previous birchbox, I fell in love with it all over again. It leaves my skin looking luminous, feeling super smooth and just so so healthy looking. (Alas I had considered £58 for the full size product beyond my budget so didn’t purchase the product). This kit thankfully makes it a little bit more affordable.

The addition of the Omega Milk is just a bit of an added bonus really as personally I don’t think It is going to last you very long but it is lovely to try especially when considering the full 30ml size of this retails for £62.

Me? I want to be grabbing another one of these kits for the oil, it’s my fave!

This next product is from a brand that is completely new to me. I tried to find some background information about The Hero Project but put it this way, there isn’t a lot out there. We are being teased with a drip feed launch of a promising new British brand. Check out #Beautyonamission on Twitter for updates.

Having tried this product Hyasoft Instant Moisture Boost rrp £19 my interest is peaked.

This is a clear non tacky gel containing hyaluranic Acid and Vitamin B 5.  It promises to help battle dull and dehydrated skin, typically a problem this time of year, thanks to a combination of cold weather and central heating.

Last week my skin was  freaking out because I had had a reaction to a strong cleanser, but this really helped to calm things down. It does exactly what it claims. If future products from The Hero Project are as good as this then I’m excited!

Libbie club is the only place this is available for sale right now with the offer being 20% of rrp.

The last offer for Match is from cult favourite Ciate. The offer from Libbie Club is £30 for the Ciate Mani Must Haves Kit worth £36 plus a free bottle of this polish ‘Mistress’. I would describe it as a classic cherry red.

So that is a round up of all the latest offers from Libbie Club.

Disclaimer – I have been sent all of these products for free to try out and share with my readers. If anyone makes a purchase through my Libbieclub page then I am sent next months box of products to try.

Love Me Beauty – February Box

I am a huge fan of beauty subscription boxes as I love trying out different beauty products. However it can mean you end up receiving a few products that you don’t really want.

This is where LoveMeBeauty.com is different. It works on a credit based system. Each month you have 60 credits to spend on products of your choice from the regularly updated boutique.

Depending on the credit price of the individual products this means you will receive  3 or 4 products.

Here are the products I received in my February box.

Rodial Dragons blood hyaluronic moisturiser  rrp £9.50 (20 credits).

Rodial Stemcell super-food cleanser rrp £8 (20 credits).

Nuxe creme prodigieuseanti-fatigue moisturising cream rrp £7.90 (10 credits).

Love Me Beauty mint hammered disc cord bracelet

I love that you can exchange some of your credits for accessories. It means you can get a good mix of make-up, skincare and jewellery in your box.

This bracelet is so pretty s delicate. I can’t put a monetary value on it but it cost me 10 of my credits.

If you like the idea of this subscription service it is available on a month to month basis or as a 3, 6 or 12 month contract. The monthly price is £10 plus p&p.

I have an offer code that means you can get an extra £21 worth of credits when you sign up.

    KATY6849

In the interest of clarity I would also receive credits for referring anyone.

If you would like to see a review off any of the products I picked this month do let me know in the comments section below.

    Thanks for stopping by schoolrunbeauty.com
